• The 2 NEW banners won’t go away.

    “New! The iThemes Security dashboard just got a new look.See what’s new” and “New! Take your site security to the next level by activating iThemes Brute Force Network Protection.Get Free API Key” keep showing.

    I have looked at both & got the API key (twice!) and have hit the X to remove them many times. But every time I log back in, they are both there.

  • Me too, it is extraordinarily annoying.

    I tried setting a boolean value of ‘0’ for the key ‘show_new_dashboard_notice’ under wp_options > itsec_global in the database but this still didnt work (it seems like itsec is using the default value of ‘1’ for ITSEC_Modules::get_setting( 'global', 'show_new_dashboard_notice' ) regardless of the DB setting).

    Instead I just ended up commenting out line 14 of /better-wp-security/core/modules/global/active.php and this does it.

    Hopefully will be fixed in a future release.

    Yep. Same here on the paid version. “See what′s new” won′t go away

    Installed the update but the problem’s still there!!

    @tzal

    What browser and what version of that browser are you using ?
    What is your client platform ?(Win 7, 10 etc).
    Did you try from different browsers ?
    Are there any errors in the web server error_log ?
    Are there any errors in the browser javascript console ?

    Several people have reported this issue lately.
    But there is ab-so-lu-te-ly no progress whatsoever in any of the other topics.

    This is typically an issue that probably needs to be looked at/debugged while being logged into the WordPress Dashboard.

    A TeamViewer session could do the trick.

    As of the 5.4.x or higher release the iTSec plugin settings are ALL stored in one database option: itsec-storage.

    Manually set the value for the show_new_dashboard_notice setting (global section) to 0 in the itsec-storage option and it should be ok.

    I also installed the latest version and it′s still there.

    WP 4.5.2
    ithemes 2.5.0
    Mac OS 10.11.5
    no javascript errors in the console
    no error log entries.
    Working in Safari but it happens in Chrome as well.

    Thanks

    I just fixed a permission issue connected to the ithemes logs folder. This also fixed the dashboard notice issue. It′s now gone ??

    @mcmito

    Interesting.
    How did the permission issue present itself ?

    dwinden

    While tinkering with other ithemes settings I eventually got the message that the folder wasn′t writable.
    It′s a bit surprising though. I′m quite sure that the permission problem wasn′t there before the last big update.

    I fixed the same permission issue on a different website and it fixed the problem there too.

    @mcmito

    Excellent.
    I bet the message turned up in the Global Settings module and looked like this:

    The file path supplied in Path to Log Files is not writable. Please supply a file path that can be written to.

    Really appreciate your feedback ??

    It will probably fix the issue in the other topic you just updated (as well as in some other topics). Your solution totally fits the picture.

    Hi dwinden

    What browser and what version of that browser are you using ?
    Chrome Version 51.0.2704.103 m

    What is your client platform ?(Win 7, 10 etc).
    Win 7

    Did you try from different browsers ?
    No

    Are there any errors in the web server error_log ?
    Don’t know

    Are there any errors in the browser javascript console ?
    Don’t know

    Installed latest update but banners are still there!

    @TZAL

    Goto the Global Settings module by clicking on its Configure Settings button and in the next screen immediately click on the Save Settings button.
    Good chance some validation error(s) will display.

    Fix any validation errors and your issue might get resolved.

    @dwinden

    Thanks that worked but it did take a few attempts of saving & restating browser (the secure site popup page required the same – a few save settings too).

    I’ll keep an eye on it for a few days to see if it really is sorted.

    @dwinden

    FYI retried after a few hours and the banners were there still. Also when going to the i-themes security dash, the ‘security check’ popup was there again!

    But restarted browser after saving ‘global settings’ and was OK.

    So it appears that your suggestion sorts it out for the short term but not for long.

    @TZAL

    I’m sorry to hear that.
    Seems like there is more trouble on that env.

    Hard to say what’s happening without access to the env or additional info like possible errors in the web server error_log.
