BadgeOS on Multisite – Individual site's control of group creation

    I’ve been going around in circles the past few days with this and hope you have a suggestion.

    I have BadgeOS, BuddyPress, Invite Code Add-On, etc, all working very well on my main site. As a teacher, I add a new BuddyPress group per class I teach, give that class a unique invite code and then as students create accounts on my website they input the invite code and my “class lists” organize themselves. I teach over 20 different classes, so user organization is essential so that I can sort submissions and users.

    My dilemma is that I’ve now switched to multi-site to allow other teachers to sign up & create their own course websites. Each of those teachers has their own classes and also needs to generate their own groups.

    Each site’s groups is independent of other sites’ groups & should not see the other sites’ groups or users.

    The other issue is that if a sub-site is creating a new group, it kicks them back to the main website to do it – it’s not happening natively in their own class website. This gets really confusing for the end user. The back end (admin) groups screen doesn’t appear for site admins on multisite, so that’s not an option either.

    Surely other educational instances of BadgeOS have dealt with similar problems. Any suggestions for work arounds?

    With this one, I guess I’m not sure which is the source of the groups issue. My hunch says that it’s a BuddyPress issue for why and where the groups are showing up, since BadgeOS doesn’t handle group creation/management at all. Curious if you’d still be having that issue even with our plugins deactivated.

    You’re right – I don’t think the issue is coming from BadgeOS itself but rather the other plugins BadgeOS requires to function. Sorry for bugging you with it – just trying to cover all my bases and get this sorted ?? BadgeOS is the key functionality of my site – everything else I add plugin wise is to just to try to get BadgeOS to work how I need it to.

    The issue might be common among users trying to use BadgeOS. In an educational setting, the ability to manage the school/teacher/student relationships of users in an organized way is key. There doesn’t seem to be an effective way to do it, currently. If any other users of BadgeOS have experienced similar issues and found a way to manage it, I’d appreciate hearing your stories.

    I’ll try over at the BuddyPress forums to see if anyone has ideas there.

    I think I’m going to abandon groups and try to manage it through adding an additional user field or custom role types or some other tack. Somehow.

    Regardless, I hope things work out and a viable solution is found, however which way it may be.

    There are so many ways things could be done, that it’s hard to cover every single use case, but we do what we can.
