Bad widget keeps customizer from opening

  • The theme for this website is Musico. The website url is https://sdgchoir.com/

    When I try to open the customize page under appearance, it refuses to open. It says it is logging in, but never logs in. You can wait for an hour, but it will never happen.

    Related to this, I think there is a malfunctioning widget. When I go to the widgets page, there is a widget that has bad code written into it. The widget is called the Search Page Sidebar. It comes from some code for a pop-up that I was trying to install, from MailChimp, but obviously I put it in the wrong place. I’ve added a couple of urls that show screen shots of the problems.

    I’ve only been doing WordPress for a year, so it is all still pretty new to me. I don’t know much about code at all, but would love to find a way to fix this problem.Fortunately, my website still works, but I know that eventually I will need to be able to open that customize page again.

  • Try using FTP to remove that troublesome plugin.

    Thanks for writing, kjodle. Could you give me a little more help? Right now, I don’t even know where the website is hosted, because it was originally set up by someone else. I know I could look up that information on WHOIS, but I don’t think I have access to FTP, because I don’t have any log in information for the host. Do I need to find out that information before I can proceed?

    Yes, you would need to contact the host to get ftp user credentials. They will need to speak to whomever owns the account, most likely.

    Hmm… I did this, and he tried to fix it, but he could not do it. We were wondering what to try next? Any ideas would be welcome.
