Just installed this plugin and set up the API credentials for Google Drive but I’m getting the error message below when clicking on the ‘Authenticate your Google Drive account’:

Bad response when contacting Google: SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate.

    PHP v5.3.21

    Hi,

That message means that the SSL certificate presented by Google Drive did not validate – i.e. appeared to be invalid.

Try going into the expert options at the bottom of the UpdraftPlus ‘Settings’ tab, and changing the option for using the server’s certificate store. Does that make a difference? (Remember to save options).

Hi. I did as you suggested, but same result?

    Thanks. Matt

That suggests that the certificate you’re being presented is invalid, if neither the UD built-in certificate store, nor the server built-in certificate store like the look of it.

You could tick the box to not verify certificates at all, but of course you should understand the implications of that before doing so. The alternative is that you’d need to spend dedicated time on investigating what certificate is apparently being presented, and what makes it invalid. (That’s not something that UpdraftPlus has a built-in debugging tool for).

It’s possible that the true problem is in your webserver, and is this: https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=7647 – which is fixed by a webserver restart.

Hi David. Thanks for still looking into this. I will post your feedback in my webhost forum and see what they say. Thanks!

Hi David. This was the response from the Webhost:

Our hosting is Windows based, any bugs relating to Apache webserver or the Centos (Linux) Operating System do not apply to our hosting I’m afraid.

The error message would indicate to us that there is an issue with the SSL Certificate being presented by Google. You may need to check the URL you’re using is correct for Google Drive as we’re able to access drive from the server without any unusual certificate errors occuring.

I tried switch to Dropbox but I have a similar error:

“Dropbox/Curl error: SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate”

Try changing the option for using the server’s SSL certificate store in the expert options at the bottom of the “Settings” tab.

Hi David. No luck so I used the ftp option instead. Thanks for your help.
