• The new editor is not compatible with many plugins. For example there is no space for custom field groups from the wonderful plugin Advanced Custom Fields Pro. I think this editor works nice for a really simple blog, but not for blogs with advanced possibilities.

I hope the gutenberg editor is a optional feature and the tinymce is available for the future.

You are right, a lot of testing needs to happen with a lot of plugins and themes. That’s an important stage for the project, one it’s not quite ready for.

Gutenberg in some way will also be able to be ‘turned off’, the how isn’t decided. The hope is though as it grows and develops, less and less will want to do this.

Thank you for taking time to give feedback, each bit helps and improves the project.

@karmatosed the other side of the gutenberg editor is, many companies have guidelines to share content on the business page. With all the possibilities of designing the content with, colors, background, font size … every person can do all with the content. I think this is not the aim of many companies. The same thing for many bloggers (food, fashion, travel …). The focus is the text and images, but not to designing the content. It’s easier to have a good theme to do that which regulates the design.

Also the meta boxes are a very important feature to customize many things of a page or post. So the ACF Plugin have meta boxes in use to do this. Design blocks of the Gutenberg-Editor are not the solution. So I think there must be a way to do this with meta boxes like ACF or WooCommerce without activating an legacy mode if the Gutenberg editor is the main editor of WordPress.

Or the Yoast SEO plugin use meta boxes. If I testing the gutenberg editor right now, I can’t see some space to display meta boxes of different plugins. I don’t think that the right sidebar offers enough space to show all the things. What is planned to make all the plugins compatible with the gutenberg post/page layout?

@wootimes, right now there is nothing set. There’s a really healthy discussion on metaboxes over on GitHub: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/952. I would strongly encourage anyone to take a look at that if they are interested. From there, a solution will emerge and the community will work on it.
