Bad HELO – Host impersonating hostname

  • My website using PostSMTP to send registrations has been working fine for a couple of weeks. But suddenly all the registrations have stopped and instead I get an email “Bad HELO – Host impersonating hostname [web0115.zxcs.nl]”. I have tried changing various settings in PostSMTP and re-ran the wizard but all I get is the same.
    I did not change *anything* on my website and my hosting service does not indicate that they have changed anything. It just stopped working.

    update… Disabled PostSMTP and the ‘basic’ PHP $post does work for registering new users. However that will almost certainly break other uses of $post embedded in PHP in my website!

    Did you upgrade in last period ?
    Where do you host your website ?

    Info to paste here:
    1. Go to the plugin email log, hover one of the failed emails and press the “transcript”, remove private info.
    2. Paste the diagnostic test here.

    No upgrades done between the plugin working and not working.

    found your issue.
    Post SMTP is starting his SMTP session talking with the mail server.
    The main doing a reverse check on the IP address and found the mismatch.
    The problem is that the two names are the same pointing to the same IP address,
    the winner and the main server his: web0115.zxcs.nl (185.104.29.74).

    try to change your mail hostname to web0115.zxcs.nl.

    Server side:
    Tell your web hosting to whitelist the IP on DirectAdmin server’s side and add it to relay_hosts either in /etc/exim.conf or in /etc/exim.variables.conf.custom

    Please download the plugin from the repo and upload it with FTP.
