    Dear Sir or Madam,

A friend has a primary domain & two add-on domains on a particular web host.

Wordfence works fine for the primary domain and one of the add-on domains.

However, the second add-on domain displays an incorrect pathway when I try to configure the firewall. That is, it shows the pathway for the primary domain instead of the add-on domain. ie:

    /PATHWAY/public_html/wordfence-waf.php

    When it should show:

    /PATHWAY/public_html/ADDON-DOMAIN-NAME/wordfence-waf.php

When I tried to complete the configuration, Wordfence informed me that the firewall was corrupt. (It’s in Learning Mode right now.)

I should add that the pathway in the .USER.INI file is correct.

A few other things to mention:

    • The site has frequently been running very slow ( > 1 minute load times).
    • According to the Uptime Robot plugin, the add-on site is down several hours a day.
    • The web host changed pathways 3 weeks ago, and seems to have changed them back recently.

Does this sound like a hosting problem where the pathway wasn’t changed correctly for this add-on domain?

Or is there something else that I can do in the Wordfence settings?

    Hi @jpecsenyicki,

It sounds potentially like an issue that sometimes crops up when a site is cloned where the auto_prepend_file = code in .htaccess in the root directory of your “new” site refers to the cloned site’s path.

If you open that root .htaccess with the file manager/editor of your choice and alter the path from /PATHWAY/public_html/wordfence-waf.php to /PATHWAY/public_html/ADDON-DOMAIN-NAME/wordfence-waf.php then this should resolve the problem.

Let me know how you get on!

    Peter.

Oh, I don’t think I explained something clearly to you.

The three domains all have their own WordPress installations, and their own Wordfence firewalls. Their paths in their respective .USER.INI files are:

    Primary Domain:
    /PATHWAY/public_html/wordfence-waf.php

    Add-On Domain #1:
    /PATHWAY/public_html/ADD-ON-DOMAIN-1/wordfence-waf.php

    Add-On Domain #2:
    /PATHWAY/public_html/ADD-ON-DOMAIN-2/wordfence-waf.php

But for some reason, Add-On Domain #2’s Wordfence is trying to follow the Primary Domain’s pathway instead of its own.

Hi @jpecsenyicki, thanks for the clarification.

Can you send a diagnostic report from Add-On Domain #2 to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

Note: For the fastest response time, please make sure and add any information or questions directly to this topic and not the email address above unless asked.

    Thanks again,

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

I’ve just sent the Diagnostic report.

Looking through it, it shows the correct path. Which is not what I saw when I tried to configure the firewall.

The firewall is currently in Learning Mode.

    Thanks for your help.

Hi @jpecsenyicki, thanks for sending that over.

I am also seeing the path and all connections along with IP detection seemingly working without configuration issues. I was unable to access the site last week suggesting that path was indeed incorrect for the domain, but am now seeing the site. Did the firewall issue now subside with the site visibility or is it still presenting?

Just as an aside, it seems like you’re in the usual learning mode period for a fresh installation. It’s probably OK to change this now though by clicking Manage WAF from the Wordfence Dashboard. You will see Basic Firewall Options > Web Application Firewall Status. Change the option to Enabled and Protecting. If you’re still working on developing the site, just be aware to watch for false positives.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi @wfpeter,

    Sorry for not replying sooner.

The firewall has been “Enabled and Protecting” for the past 5 days (Learning Mode ended on Dec 26th).

Just yesterday I noticed the homepage took over a minute to load, but it’s loading faster tonight.

(BTW, I’ve made clones of the site on 2 different web hosts with the Duplicator plugin, and am not seeing the very slow loading times that sometimes occur on this installation.)

    Hi @jpecsenyicki,

Thanks for getting back to me. As a result of the speed differences, will you be removing the site from the host when you created this ticket to a new host? In this case, the duplicatied site seems to now be working successfully for you. Is Wordfence functioning as expected at that location?

    Thanks again,

    Peter.

It’s my friend’s site, so it’s his decision whether to change hosts or not.

But clones of his site were working well on 2 other hosts. No problems with Wordfence pathways on either of them.
