Hi, I installed this plugin in an attempt to stop increasing traffic from a certain user agent (go-http-client). I added it to the table and in the visits log I can see that access is denied for this agent. But when I check the apache log file there are a lot more requests from this agent that are apparently not affected by the plugin (and don’t show up in the plugin’s vistits log). See examples:

affected and listed in visits log
    123.186.73.87 – – [17/Apr/2024:00:43:30 +0200] “GET /motion-dance-studio/ HTTP/1.1” 403 215 “-” “Go-http-client/1.1”

not affected and not listed in visits log
    123.186.73.87 – – [17/Apr/2024:00:43:57 +0200] “GET /wp-content/plugins/akismet/_inc/akismet-frontend.js?ver=1713255955 HTTP/1.1” 200 11788 “-” “Go-http-client/1.1”
(this last one 100 times in less than 2 minutes, by the way – IP addresses change continuously)

What could be a possible explanation for this and is there maybe some setting that would make the plugin more effective?

    Thanks

    Hi Kizz,

Check the settings page and select “yes” for all options.

If your version is free, mark this option as “conservative”:
Block Engine Management (Only Minimal and Conservative options available in the free version of the plugin).

After a few hours, visit the visitors table and review the results.

Check our FAQ page (https://StopBadBots.com) to understand what “Masked” means in the visitors log.

No one can prevent a bot from attempting to open a page, but we can hide their content and also respond with “forbidden”.

After a day, visit the plugin analytics page and see your traffic separated between humans and bots. Watch the video on our detail page on WordPress.

Avoid using more than one software to prevent bots as they may conflict with each other.

If you want to enhance protection, also install our free antihacker plugin (hackers also use bots) and Recaptcha for all; they work well together.

    Regards,

    Bill
