I am running a WordPress site locally and created a complete backup and loaded to remote server.

I got fatal errors due to file permissions of 666.

When files were local / mamp, all files were 644.

    Why does backwpup change permissions?

No, BackWPUp don’t change your file permission ??
I think your remote server has that default permission. For now, please change your remote file permission and then try again ??
    Hope that help!

I get same permissions locally. Have not had this issue with backuowordpress or if I manually create a zip.

BackWPUp didn’t have the ability to change permission of your folder and files ??
If possible, please provide us more details about your problem ( what files or folders got permission changed?, … )

I have tried this on several sites. On each site, all file permissions are set to 644.

Then I create a backup and when I extract that backup, all file permissions are set to 666. Doesn’t matter if I extract zip locally or on a server.

Folder permissions stay the same; eg, 755.

Note: I have used backupwordpress in the past and it never changes file permissions. Also, if I create zip files on my mac, it does not change file permissions.

hmm, really weird problem, BackWPUp does not have the capability to change file permission.

Hi, I actually didn’t get it resolved.

I did some more tests though. I installed your plugin on one of my live sites on a live web server (rather than locally through mamp site / server). The results were the same. When I downloaded the file and extracted it, all files were changed from 644 to 666.

Also, I did a test with backupwordpress plugin. When I downloaded a backup from that plugin, the permission were not changed from 644.

As a result, I can at least conclude that it’s not my computer that is changing the files on extraction.

Hi, alfter update BackWPup to new vesrion I have the same problem.
When im unzip backup folder on serwer all files and and folder has permissions set to 666.

It seems to me that this is not the fault of the server, because with older copies made by BackWPup (from November 2017, older version of the module) I do not have this problem.

    Hi @pxforti
Just want to ask if you still got the issue with the latest BWP version?
    Thank you

    Hi,

Thanks for the great plugin ??

Sadly though, this issue isn’t resolved. Still on the lastest versions this problem is occurring.

My Backup settings are standard out of the box, nothing is changed.

Files are sent to S3 and the job is queued via cron.

    Please help.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

I am having the exact same problem as @pxforti and have used the plugin for many years now. This problem has appeared for me in around June 2017.

I use this plugin on many different hosting service providers and always keep it up-to-date. I have also many live websites on the same server and can trace it accordingly.

The backup creates the zip files which is down and then uploaded to the new website hosting place and extracted. But I can clearly see in the downloaded WPbackup zip file that the permission attributes are changed to 0666 (-rw-rw-rw-) for files.

So it must happen when the zip file is created by WPbackup, as when I create a manual back-up zip file it leaves the permission attributes as they are (0644).

I am not aware that a file permission change can happen when the zip file is downloaded directly via cPanel or FTP.

It happened now a couple of times leading to a quite time consuming manual change of all file permissions.

    Could you please comment.

    Thanks
