  • If you put a copy of the functions.php in the child theme – that’s what happens. The only file in the child theme should be style.css.

You’ll need to use FTP to remove all other files from the child theme folder.

Would it be too much to ask for you to login and do this? because im just getting frustrated… i just want my comments fixed =(

Sorry, but we only offer help on these forums – we’re not allowed to access people’s sites :(. I know it can be frustrating, but if you want to make these kinds of changes to your site, you do need to be able to work through things like this.

If you need additional help, you could post a job listing here:

ill figure it out myself. my entire site it now jacked up because of this crap………….

you said to take everything out of the child theme except the css and now ALLL the work i did to my site is GONE

No, it’s not gone. But you do need to redo some settings/options in the child theme – they aren’t transferred to a child theme. You can change back to the parent theme and they’ll be there. But if you modify theme files in the parent – those changes WILL be permanently lost when the theme is updated – so I would not advise doing that.

Also, please be aware that people helping out here are volunteers and all help here is free – I’m spending my Saturday helping people – so ranting here isn’t likely to be useful.

I went back the the parent theme and deleted the entire child theme all together because taking out the other files messed everything up. I will re-do the child theme later but i don’t remotely understand why having a parent and child theme is screwing my comments up. the problem clearly has to be in the code and shouldn’t matter if it is parent or child.

And believe me, I help people ALLL the time with designing and photography all i want is to fix my comments and not get some run around about crap i dont care about. if i want a child theme i will do that. my files are backed up thankfully so i can fix it. i just want my comments right is all!

Nothing should be gone. You can just copy the comments PHP template file to the child theme, then change the query order.

If you have to add any kind of code to the child theme, just create an empty functions.php file instead of copying the parent themes functions.php file (will certainly generate duplicated functions error).

I haven’t touched the functions theme…. I don not understand this at all….

Maybe copied a theme file to the child that contains a function…
