We are using version 3.4.3 of the plugin and have our site hosted using DreamPress.

Our site at dpsfoundation.org is not being backed up automatically to DreamObjects. When I log into the DreamPress administration panel, I do not see any recent backups in our DreamObjects bucket. I also do not have a list of backups on the “Backups” screen in the WordPress admin.

I even “Reset Options” in the plugin to make sure that we have the correct key credentials; however, this did not help.

When I turn on logging and run a manual backup, I see that it a backup ZIP file is successfully created on our domain, but not that it was sent to DreamObjects. The size of the backup ZIP is 405MB.

I tried to talk with the DreamHost technical support about this issue and they referred me to this forum. Can you help?

It’s the size. If you read the FAQ it says that larger zips don’t work. The next version is trying to address that better, but basically when you get over 275megs, PHP stops agreeing to upload sanely and runs out of memory :/

Thanks, Mika. The notes on GitHub said that the issue was with sites over 500 MB (https://github.com/Ipstenu/dreamobjects), so I wasn’t sure that this was the problem.

What do you suggest as a backup strategy in the meantime?

It’s been hit or miss around 500 (also what’s on Git is not entirely the same as what’s in WPORG for … reasons… Like the way I’m managing to crash my test box regularly ?? ). The 275 limitish is on Shared (sorry, I replied pre coffee…), you’re on DreamPress, which gets you way closer to 500!

I bumped your PHP memory so if you want to give it one last hurrah, it may work.

I am working on getting the plugin to stream uploads better, which entails upgrading a lot of back end libraries. Until then, you can make manual backups of the files via FTP, which I know is not at all optimal, or another plugin. The best backups for WordPress I know of is VaultPress (I wish I could bribe them for their setup…) which streams files more seamlessly.

Hi Mika – Thanks for your reply, and for bumping up our memory.

I tried again, but backups are still not working for us. I’m talking with the team to see if we can remove some of the older, larger files. That may get us down closer to 275 … it is a large site ??

Thanks for the VaultPress recommendation. We’ll think about that for an intermediate solution.

You may want to checkout https://blogtimenow.com/wordpress/remove-unused-images-wordpress-clean-uploads-folder/ for ideas on how to remove unused media.
