I seem to be running into an issue of my media files missing file names when I restore from a backup.

I’m currently rebuilding my companies website from the ground up and was adding translations when I ran into an issue with constant “Leaving Website” notifications everytime I would leave a page even if I didn’t make any changes. At first I thought it was an issue with a plugin or I had maybe accidentally edited some code wrong so I tried restoring from before I started having this issue. I eventually learned it was the new WordPress update 5.6.1 that was causing it so I restored back to what I was on before. This was then when I started noticing I was having issues with some images not showing up while editing pages or would disappear after I had saved the changes. I then checked out my media library and saw that some of the files were either blank or showing generic icons and if I went to edit the file it will show the proper URL but the file name and all other info is missing.

I have gone through the FTP and all the files are there with their same names and everything. I have also tried a fresh install and then restored from backup but still have the same issues. It’s also completely random of what media files it affects, some were uploaded just days ago some are from a month ago and it affects all file types.

If someone could help me either fix my backups or a way to fix my media files without having to delete them all that would be great.

    Hello, there.

It sounds like we’re going to need to do some advanced troubleshooting for this issue, so we would need to know your domain name and private items pertaining to your account and connection.

Could you please contact us via this contact form instead of this thread for direct support?

Thank you, I think I finally found the issue. It seems like the backup I have been trying to load either didn’t backup properly or corrupted when it backed up. I finally found an older working backup and found that the postmeta table in the, broken backup, database is missing a massive amount of lines and the file sizes are way off. The working backup postmeta.sql is 133mb while the nonworking one is only 2mb.

I’m just going to have to redo the few days I had lost, but at least now everything else is working again.
