    Hey all,

I’ve got WordPress installed on server A but now want to migrate it to server B.

I can’t seem to figure out how to ‘restore’ the database from server A to server B.

On server A, i went to Tools, Export… i exported what seems to be all my content, but just can’t import it to restore!

    Can somebody help?

    Thanks!

You need to back up your database as that is where all your settings and posts are saved and restore your database.

You will find instruction s here about half down

If your host has PHP My Admin you can export your DB using that tool then at the new hosting company import it. Most hosting companies use that app. Another thing you can try is to enable the built in export and import feature in wp. You can find that under the tools section in the WP admin panel.

I’m hosting the site on my own server at work – i’ve not got PHPMyAdmin! How do i enable the built-in export, import…? I can export fine, but when i click IMPORT it says i can only import from OTHER blogs, like Blogger etc.!

On the old server loginto your WP admin panel then go to tools, export. Export what you need once that is saved to your desktop you can go to tools, import click on the one that says WordPress Import posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags from a WordPress export file.
Not sure what it will import but you can try it.
Another thing is you can do a mysqp dump and then import it into the new server or use a graphical program like MySQL Administrator. You can find it on the MySQL site.
