The backup no longer works during an installation. I can schedule the job and it is also displayed, but not executed. There is also no log or error message. When the job is started manually, everything works and the backup is created. Even starting the job manually via the URL does not work.

On other installation on the same server it works super nice. Any idea, what could be the error? Already asked the hoster. he said that the cron jobs on the server worked normally. super strange.

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out regarding the scheduled backup issues you’ve been experiencing with BackWPup.

The WordPress cron system relies on site traffic or proper server configuration to function correctly. If your site does not receive regular visits, the cron jobs may not execute as intended. We recommend discussing this with your hosting provider’s support team to ensure that cron jobs are properly configured. Ideally, the wp-cron.php file should be called by a real cron job every 5 minutes for optimal performance.

As a workaround, clients experiencing issues can consider using an external cron service with the “With a link” option to trigger the backups.

I have also opened an issue with our developers for further investigation into this matter.

Thank you for your understanding, and please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Best regards,

Hi. Its super strange. Looks like the cron job is running on the page, because we import a google sheet from elsewhere and ive got a confirmation about the import every 15 minutes. So this will not be the issue i think.

When i set the cronjob from wpbackup to a specific time, ive get this error.

PHP Fatal error: ?Uncaught Error: Unknown named parameter $arg in /var/www/vhosts/esserei.ch/httpdocs/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php:324
    Stack trace:

    #2 /var/www/vhosts/esserei.ch/httpdocs/wp-cron.php(191): do_action_ref_array()
    #3 {main}
    ?thrown in /var/www/vhosts/esserei.ch/httpdocs/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php?on line 324

Ive no idea whats wrong. The manual backup words fine.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your reply.

As said, the issue is already under investigation.

In the meantime, have you tried the workaround and see if it helps?

Hi. Thank you for your reply. Nope it doesnt works with the url. I can copy this url in the browser, but nothing happen. Im unable to start it manually. But the other cron jobs (import from a google sheets) worked fine every 15 minutes and I see that it passes in the logs. But nothing happens with the cron jobs to WP Backup. But only on 2 Sites. Really dont get it what the problem is.

I can provide you a staging page if you want to test it.

    Best regards. Manuel

    [redacted]

The Backup Job is also configurated and testet. Manually it works. We will see if it works tomorrow with the cron job.

Thank you for your help. Have a great weekend.

    Hi,

Unfortunately, only WordPress moderators have that control to delete. In any case, best would be to change those login informations.

I’m am 100% sure you mean well but please never ask for credentials on these forums, whether in a message or email.

Now for the why: The internet is a wonderful place full of very nice people and a few very bad ones. I’m sure everyone here is very nice however, by giving some ones keys to your house you are trusting they wont steal anything. Likewise the person who takes the keys is now responsible for the house FOREVER.

If something was to go wrong, then you the author may well legally become liable for damages, which they would not normally have been as their software is provided without warranty.

Please be aware that repeatedly asking for credentials will result in us escalating this to the plugins team.

It’s never necessary to do that. Here’s why.

There are many ways to get information you need and accessing the user’s site is not one of them. That’s going too far.

    • Ask for a link to the https://pastebin.com/ or https://gist.github.com log of the user’s web server error log.
    • Ask the user to create and post a link to their phpinfo(); output.
    • Ask the user to install the Health Check plugin and get the data that way.
    • Walk the user through enabling WP_DEBUG and how to log that output to a file and how to share that file.
    • Walk the user through basic troubleshooting steps such and disabling all other plugins, clear their cache and cookies and try again.
    • Ask the user for the step-by-step on how they can reproduce the problem.

    You get the idea.

Volunteer support is not easy. But these forums need to a safe place for all users, experienced or new. Accessing their system that way is a short cut that will get you into real trouble in these forums.
