I just ran a manual backup. This is the second time I have run a backup. (BTW, It would be nice if the plugin page said something like “Backup in progress” for reassurance.) I got an email a few minutes later saying the backup was complete. In Google Drive, all but the db backup file were deleted, and no new backup files were added. 30 minutes later I got another email saying the same thing. No change in Google Drive.

I get this message when I click the log link: “UpdraftPlus notice: The log file could not be read.”

Hopefully the most recent versions fix this… please confirm if so.

By popular (your!) request, UpdraftPlus (from 1.3.36 onwards), now contains a line in the settings page which provides a continuous update of the most recent logged line – which in turn will indicate either that the backup is in progress, or that it completed, or that a resumption is scheduled.

I installed the update and started a backup. Refreshed the page a couple times to check out the status line. I just got “Error establishing a database connection”!

That’s nothing to do with UpdraftPlus particularly. UpdraftPlus only accesses the WordPress database via WordPress’s in-built functions.

Okay, the site is available again, and I see that refreshing is not necessary, as the page is continuously updating with the % progress of upload to GD. Spiffy. Just that little hiccup with the site being momentarily unavailable.

I will test after the work day is over by disabling other plugins and trying a backup to see if I get the connection error again.

    Cheers.

    PS
Still getting numerous emails during backup, before it actually completes. Oh well, not too big a deal I guess.

Numerous emails – did you turn debug off? If you have the latest version, then the log records the reason why it is emailing you.

The database message indicates your MySQL server was down, nothing to do with UpdraftPlus.

Sure, the db connection could have been coincidental, but I’ve never had it happen before on any site ever, just then a minute after starting a backup. If I can’t reproduce it later, great.

Oh debug generates the extra emails during backup. That makes sense. Ok, turned it off.

I was not suggesting, I was informing… I’m a MySQL admin. That error message means that the server had gone away; you can Google it to verify that.

I’ve been running it for a while now, backing up the database every day and files every week. There was one error a few weeks ago backing up the files; they didn’t complete and the backup was abandoned until the next week. Aside from that, it’s been great, and exactly what I need! Heading to your site to make a donation now. ??

    Cheers.
