    Hello,
I’ve seen a few topics with this but as you have asked I am making an individual topic.
We run this plugin on many sites, but on one of our new sites this plugin is running in to a problem.

The case is the same for : scheduled tasks, manual run tasks, database only, file only, database and file, excluding large folders such as uploads – When the backup starts, it appears to be working (the spinning icon appears), the page reloads but there are no backups – and no error messages.

File permissions for the folder are set to 755. Doesn’t appear to be execution time, as the page refreshes around 4 or 5 seconds after starting the task.

I’ve tried to identify the issue looking at the network but I can’t see any errors appearing in the console or network tabs on my browser dev tools.

Any advice would be useful. I have clicked enable support but that didn’t seem to do alot other than allow me to initiate a chat.

    (PHP v 7.0.1, WordPress version 4.7, Plugin version: 3.6.2).

On some servers/hosts, there is a very low setting for the max_execution_time – I would be curious if you can find out what yours is and see if increasing that helps at all.

Who is the host? And what plan is it on with them? I can dig into any non-obvious limits there could be playing into this.

You didn’t say for sure if this was set up on a different host/server environment than your other sites, so I wouldn’t want to have you check too many things without knowing that for sure ??

Let me know and I’ll be happy to get back with you on further things we can work through!

    Thanks,
    Kat

The max exec time is 30 seconds – I’ve just tried this on another domain, set up on the same server with the same settings for PHP (such as max exec time) – and it worked fine.

I suppose that suggests it would be one of the plugins on my wordpress install- I tried disabling Wordfence but it still did not work.

The hosting is with webfusion- usually the plugin is simply activate and it runs instantly.

Quick Update on this – still having issues. We have tried the following:

    • Increasing exec time (although I don’t believe this is the issue
    • Rolling back the PHP version to PHP 5.3.
    • Using the beta version of backupwordpress – whilst this stops (or appears to stop) the calculating size message- the backup process still appears the same.

Because this is ending so quickly (the page reloads maybe 3 or 4 seconds after I click scan now) – then I’m leaning towards this being a javascript issue. Is there a way tell if this is the case? I can’t see anything in the console but wondering if there is anything I should look for.

    Thanks,
    Lewis.

If you use the Query Monitor plugin you might be able to isolate errors and warnings that way. Also confirm for me – the scheduled backups don’t work either?

    Thanks,
    Kat

I’ll Install query monitor and see what I can find. Will reply when I know more-

I can confirm that the scheduled backups are not working either.

Looking through the server logs, I can’t see any errors or processes ending early, it actually looks Ok.

I’ll compare this to the logs of a working domain and see if I can find any differences.

I checked through server logs after running a successful backup on a different site, and I can’t see any direct differences.

I’ve installed Query monitor, but I’m not sure what I’m looking for. The only queries I seem to be able to see are select option queries.

Could you advise on what to look for in Query Monitor?

On Query Monitor, look for any warnings or errors, specifically, then look at the time any queries are taking, especially if there are any that are taking a long time to run or aren’t completing.

Can’t see any warnings or errors.

In terms of slow queries, there was only one consistent query from another plugin. I deactivated this and tried the backup again – no luck.

I’ve updated to the latest version of BackupWordpress (ver 3.6.3.1).

Strangely, when switching to database only- it seems to almost instantly reload the page. It would appear it’s not even attempting to back the site uo for some reason – I don’t know if that helps with troubleshooting this..

Got an update on this- I can’t see any errors on my screen, but using the Network tab when I use the developer tools on my browser- I can see that on the admin-ajax.php file there was an error message saying wp-cron.php was returning a 404 error (the file is in the directory as normal). After visiting your FAQs I tried scheduling a post but that went to ‘missed post’ I’ve tried changing the permissions, as your site suggests- this appears to have gotten rid of the message but the site is still not backing up.

Any advice on this would be appreciated.

@lewisjames24 – would it be possible to have you enable support for me so I can see more information on your site and server and interact with you through the app there? https://bwp.hmn.md/knowledge-base/how-to-enable-support/ – it’ll open a chat box and I’ll be able to respond to you via that. There might be a delay but you should receive an email notification to the admin email as well.

Also, the minimum php version that we recommend is actually 5.3.2, though I would definitely suggest updating that to a newer version again. I know we’ve tested to 7.0 and it is supposed to be working well with that version.

It definitely sounds like something else is going on here but I’m just not sure exactly what it would be. ??

I’ll Enable support and initiate a chat –

The PHP version was running at 7.0.14 – I tried rolling this back to see if it would fix the issue but it did not.

Hopefully it will be something very simple that I am completely missing!

I’m resolving this since we worked via the support channel. Please open a new topic if also have issues and you want to continue troubleshooting.

    Thanks,
    Kat

Could you post the solution you found in this case? I have a similar issue…

    Thread Starter lewisjames24

    (@lewisjames24)

We did not find a solution to this one- I’ve resorted to manually taking backups. However, this case was extremely specific- I’d suggest opening your own topic or enabling support.
