I love your plugin but is has stopped working. It appears to try and make its updates, but never completes them. I noticed that the last fully completed backup for my site was in Feb 2016.

When Im logged into my WP Dashboard/ Backups page it always give me this message but never completes the backup. Please advise.

“Backup my database and files (110 MB) every two weeks on Sunday at 11:00 PM, store the last 2 backups in /wp-content/backupwordpress-HASH-backups. Send an email notification to EMAIL Backing up files…”

I’ve recommended your plugin to many people. When it works its fantastic. We would love to continue using it, please let us know how we can fix this problem. BTW I have tried to deactivate it and reactivate it. Also, uninstalled it and reinstalled it. But the problem still exists.

    Thank you!

    Hi there –

I’m sorry you’re having trouble completing backups. Can you tell me – have you tried separating the backup into just the database and then just the files portions (not the ‘complete’ backup) to see if either completes? If not, please try that – you can change the type of backup by clicking on the “Settings” under the schedule, or you can just create a new schedule and adjust the settings there.

If you have tried that – do either of them complete consistently?

    Let me know!

    Hi Kat,
I separated out the Database backup and the Files backup.
So far the DB backup did work. ?? I’m waiting for the Files backup to finish.
    I’ll keep you posted. Thanks!!!!

Okay – try to exclude the wp-content directory from the files-only backup and see if it completes. You can do that by clicking on “Excludes” under the schedule information, and then clicking to “exclude” the wp-content directory, and then scrolling down to click “done” afterwards. Try to run the backup after that and see if it completes and let me know what happens?

    Hi Kat,

Yes it completed and stored the backup with the exclusion. Without the wp-content directory the size went from 558mb to 5mb. Perhaps the size is the issue?

I noticed that the permissions on the folder for wp-content is different than the others.
Its permissions is 0711 . Not sure if this would make a difference.

    Thanks

    Hey there –

I don’t think your problem is the permissions. I do think it is tied to the size of the files backup. You likely need to try to split up the backup in order to make it easier for your server to complete the backup.

We have more information on how to do that here: https://bwp.hmn.md/support-center/troubleshooting/splitting-backup-workload/

Let me know if you are able to do that or if you need further help. You can also talk with your host and see whether they have additional limits on your server or hosting plan that might be in the way of a complete backup. It could be you are able to tweak those settings to help the backup complete.
