"Backup now!" button redirects to my site's home page

To be safe, I want to backup my WP site before a long overdue update to the latest WP.
However, when I click the “Backup now!” button, after a short delay (and no backup), the WP Dashboard is replaced by my site’s home page.
Perhaps I should just hope for the best and update WP.
