• I am getting this error message coming up in red. I know there is good advice on this topic on the forums for those who understand what the advisors are saying, but I am completely at sea. I do not understand where you start to look to find an htaccess file, or where to put it. I am not using the latest version of WordPress as I cannot upgrade until the problem is resolved. Can someone tell me where I can find a step by step guide to solving this problem? It has to be in the simplest language, with the simplest steps, as if you were teaching a child.
I would be so grateful if someone could help.

  • Presumably you are using some sort of backup plugin which is creating this warning message?

Yes, I am using something called BackUpWordPress. This is the message I get, but I don’t understand what it means I have to do:

Your backup folder MIGHT be visible to the public

To correct this issue, move the .htaccess file from wp-content/plugins/wp-dbmanager to /hsphere/local/home/c278188/mosaic-blog.com/wp-content/backup-db

How did you install the plugin to begin with?

Basically the message is telling you what to do. If you have an FTP client you need to connect to your web space with it, go to the

    wp-content/plugins/wp-dbmanager

directory, and copy the file called “.htaccess” from there to

    wp-content/backup-db

Instead. .htaccess is often a hidden file, so you may need to alter a setting on your ftp client to make it show up.

I’m not sure how much easier I could make the instructions really.. Maybe someone else will try.

A friend installed it, and he is no longer here to help.

Thank you so much for trying to assist me. I think you have no idea of my level of ignorance. I now know that an FTP client is something to do with File Transfer Protocol, but I don’t know how I would go about finding it, or where I would look. Do I go to ‘Edit Plugins’? It does say there that it is not advisable to do anything to active plugins. How do I connect to my web space, and what does that mean? Is this really something that only a professional can do?

Plugins has three choices, install, add new, or editor. Do I do anything with those options? I am afraid if I can locate what you are talking about, I wouldn’t know what to do next.

    Sorry to be so stupid.

I have found under ‘Manage Plugins’ something called WP-DB Manager. Do I edit it? Or visit the plug in site? These seem to be the options.
