• Hi Mike,

I’m in the middle of changing webhosts (fun), taking an opportunity to re-building my wordpress installation fresh. I’m trying to import my data from the existing site into the new site and I’m getting an error message – backup file contains invalid data.

There’s two thoughts that I have:

    1. I was using the database plugin (Contact form 7 database extension), however I’ve removed that now. Wondering if it left over some residue?
    2. I have an apostrophe in my name that may well be screwing with it? Edit: I’ve just edited the file and taken the apostrophes out, still the same issue!
    3. I have also tried doing the forms singly, but the same problem occurs.

Any thoughts? Obviously I can copy them over, but it would be a bit of a pain if I ever needed the backup!!!

    Thanks, Dan

  • Contact form 7 database extension cannot cause any problem with the backup.
Make sure you never email or edit the plain text backup file or it WILL get corrupted. The data is serialized, so you should not edit it at all. If you need to email it, zip it first.

If you still need help, make a fresh backup that you have not edited in any way, then zip and email it to me for examination.

Thanks! That solved it! I’d been emailing it from one computer to another!!
