Have used UpdraftPlus on my old site for ages without a single problem. Now migrated to upgraded hosting and cannot get a single backup to complete, despite multiple attempts. It does a bit of work, writes some zip files, then stops and schedules a resumption. Progress seems to get shorter each time it resumes until eventually there is none at all, and it gives up and issues a fail report — now have 8 separate zip files on the server totaling ~2GB, for a site that used to backup as about 300MB.

Interestingly the last three, from three tries today, are all exactly the same size (410.66 MB), so it seems to have become stuck at the same place. Has the same log file pattern each time:

    4549.228 (9) finding files: Header17-KEbZRz.tmp: adding to list (359)
4549.228 (9) Beginning creation of dump of uploads (split every: 400 MB)
4549.230 (9) File exists (/home/joj79x4tad9n/public_html/wp-content/updraft/backup_2020-05-18-0929_Gerg039s_Net_ce2eebe88fb6-uploads.zip.tmp), but was apparently not modified within the last 30 seconds, so we assume that any previous run has now terminated (time_mod=1589762645, time_now=1589762692, diff=47)
4549.625 (9) backup_2020-05-18-0929_Gerg039s_Net_ce2eebe88fb6-uploads.zip.tmp: Zip file already exists, with 2704 files

    Hi,

Could you try to reduce the backup archive split size? This will split the backup into smaller, more manageable files.

To do this, open the ‘expert settings’ section of the UpdraftPlus Settings tab, and find the ‘split backups every’ option. Set this to 25Mb save your settings and run a new process.

If the issue persists, please ask your hosts/server admin to investigate their PHP error logs. These logs should contain more information on the exact issue that is causing the backup process to halt.

    Kind Regards,
    Bryle

I have the same issue, I don’t think it’s due to the hosting site.
    Is this being addressed?

    Hi @sweetpoupee

    Apologies for the late reply.

Please can you also provide us a copy of your backup log?
Please don’t post it here but instead upload to a remote storage or use an online tool like pastebin.

    Regards,
    Bryle

Thanks for that advice Bryle. I reduced the file split size from 400 MB to 25 MB and it now seems to have completed a backup on the new site for the first time ever.

(I also updated to version 1.16.25; not sure if relevant.)
