• I just tried backing up a site to the vault and got the following error:

The activity failed: An error happened at: disk.php(174) fopen(/home/capacaro/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wponlinebackup/tmp/backup.indx.028ea443d8f46f18c923b90a54a44b335ada73da.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory

Can somebody please advise what the problem is here? I am just trying out this plugin so if I can’t resolve this will be looking for an alternative which I don’t want to do if I can get this one to work.

    Thanks

  • I haven’t used that but I can walk you through backing up your site to a computer if you like.

    Thanks Wen,

The reason I am looking at plugins is that I need a way of scheduling regular backups rather than doing them manually.

Is there any way of doing that other than via a plugin?

    Much appreciated!

I have my sites hosted through dreamhost and it automatically backs up the site each day for me. There are plugins but they aren’t guaranteed and if they don’t work you have to hope that the creator of that plugin still cares about it and is interested in helping you. You can google “schedule database backup.” It seems to vary quite a bit depending on whether you are using a pc or a mac, etc. Dreamhost backs up my site and then usually once a week I download the child themes and zip them and put them on an external hard drive (or two). That is not necessarily the greatest solution but it works for me!

Plugins can also have difficulties with large sites.

    Hi,

As wen said there are different ways depending on host. I do suggest that you should check what backup your host does, but not rely on it. And also configure something in the cron for the database if you want another option. You’ll still need to download though.

The plugin will supplement all these and give a proper off-site backup to our vault if you choose that method. A periodic manual backup is recommended too.

I’ll have to get all this written into a new FAQ soon.

As for the problem. Have you tried upgrading to 3.0.4? Can you try with that?
Also, does the error happen every time? Or just on occasion?
Looks like the backup file is disappearing between backup segments (we do backup in segments, doing a bit at a time)

    Regards,

    Jason
