Trying the beta today, the database dump issue resolved, however, now stuck on “Compressing files as TarGz/Zip. Please be patient, this may take a moment.”…

Test it backup database and a media folder with only 5 image inside it in Zip and TarGz, it took more than 200 seconds, so I abort it…

    Any clues Daniel?

I, too, have been having issues with the full site database / files backup stalling at “Compressing files…” – I have tried Zip, and TarGZ, I have excluded all but the bare minimum files I feel I need in a back up.

The database only backup performs fine – 17 seconds and the file is transferred to my Dropbox, as expected. When it attempts the full backup, it stalls and times out and never transfers to my Amazon S3.

    UPDATE~~
After reading a few more threads here, and although I saw nothing out of the ordinary in my root folder, I excluded the root folder from the backup; it completed in 56 seconds and transferred the TarGz file to my Amazon S3 without a problem.

If I exclude the root, and check to backup my wp-config, htaccess, etc, I can live with that… as long as it works!

I too am struggling with getting a backup to run. I am seeing similar errors and did try the github link above. I am still unable to finish.

I get a 20 min backup with 2 warnings, but the actual file does not contain all of the files in the set.

The ending line of the archive file ends up being:

/bin/gtar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors

I have tried a myriad of settings as found in the forums, but not much is helping.

The Plugin don’t use the system tar function (/bin/gtar:). I must have the full log to see what happens.

Sorry, didnt realize you had answered this, I ended up removing the plugin and using a different backup program. I think I still have the log though, how can I get it to you?

Send it to d dot huesken at inpsyde dot com.

I have a similar issue With the Message hanging:
“”Compressing files as TarGz/Zip. Please be patient, this may take a moment.”…”

    The “moment” takes forever!

I checked the files in the folder and they seems okay

So why does not the job ends sucesfully?

    (@carlstoyleneu)

Problem is found to be backup of files in some of the active plugins

    I need to Exclude:
    – akismet
    – contact-form-7
    – the-events-calendar
    – wordpress-importer
    – cms-tree-page-view
    – easy-fancybox
    – backwpup

    Then it Works!

Forgot to tell that I also needed to exclude Themes

You’re lucky Carl, mine still stuck when backing up wp_postmeta, though the Job only for database only, no file at all.
    Mine using latest release.
