Backup/Create .csv

  • I am developing a new website for an international non-profit and we want to put all the books in our resource library on the site for reference. I have been attempting to either create a backup or to create a .csv file of what we have entered so far, with no success. All I get is the spinning disk.

    I thought it might be my internet connection but I have tried this both at work and at home (with different connection types) and still do not get a backup or download.

    I would really like to recover the entire database so far so we can create a checklist for our physical library.

    I am also a non profit and a library..

    Jake can’t help you here as his backup system has not worked correctly for a while on my site too.

    However there is another way to pull back a csv with all your book data in it.

    Do you have access to your host cPanel?
    Do you know how to access phpmyadmin?

    If so you can do it from there, you just need to find the database and then browse to the export tab and select simple view and export as a CSV.

    This however is a full dump of all details inclusive of the ISBN numbers, as Jakes would only pull back the ISBN numbers.

    Hi Andrew,

    Thanks! I’ll try this route. On this particular project I don’t have access to cPanel (most projects I use my own server) but will contact the techs and see if they can get me the file/folder. I am looking for a full dump so this would be great. Since I’m going in blind, can you tell me if the database name is obvious – e.g. wpbooklist – and if not, what should I be looking for?

    Hi Tammie, @day50

    Yes, if you have only used the default library then it will be called something like “wpbook log”. Any other new library you create will manifest as its own name.

    When you browse the Db in phpmyadmin it is really easy to see, it is like browsing the side tree in explorer. However if you dont have access, then your host can do this for you if you are part of a multi site setup.

    The web host doesn’t have cPanel but I was able to get an .ftp download.
