Hi – working with the plugin on a client site, I have one concern (or perhaps I am just missing something) with the content.

If I was to backup the site, or databases for any reason and needed to retrieve the site content and structure – how would I go about that?

The site is over 750 pages of content, and if I had to rebuild the site without LC, is there any system for that?

Is there a way to retrieve the raw content itself and not all the shortcodes/tags?

None of the pages have content as you know!

I am very happy to use the plugin, but I want a fallback plan and secure content at the same time ??

    Hi,

A regular database export will hold all the information that was created with Live Composer, so backups are handled the usual way.

As for having the LC content without LC, that is unfortunately not possible. LC is needed to handle all the HTML, CSS and JavaScript outputs. It’s the same thing with all page builders for WordPress.

But you’re quite safe with the plugin, I have no plans on abandoning it.

If it was a relatively new plugin and had a small amount of users then there might be a chance. But I’ve been working on it for about 3 years and it has 20,000 active users so it’s quite safe to assume it’ll always be at the very least maintained but most likely actively updated with improvements and new features.

And in the event something happens to me ( not likely, the chances are small ) someone will take over, it’s GPL license so everyone is allowed to reuse the code.

I hope what I’ve said has helped reassure you that you don’t need to worry. ??

    Hi Slobodan,

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it.

With other composers, you can click on the ‘text/visual’ tabs on the pages and at least get the raw code, and grab the content from there. I can’t find any of the code for pages on LC.

I understand you can’t use all the coding without LC, I just want a way of grabbing the ‘structure’ of each page in case something happens down the road for LC – as this current site will probably be in production for 5 years.

    Hopefully this makes sense.

Another way of wording it – is what happens to the page content/text when I disable the LC plugin?

Do I have to copy the source code of finished pages themselves from a web browser into a text editor to keep the content/structure?

    Hi,

LC stores it’s data in a custom field instead of the content, that way leaving the actual WP content editor usable for writing your own content ( which you can then output with THE CONTENT module ).

You’ll see the LC data in a custom field called “dslc_code”.

In case the custom fields are not shown ( when you go to edit the page in the admin ), you’ll see “Screen Options” in top right corner of the page, click that and make sure “Custom Fields” checkbox is checked, when it’s checked it’ll show up.

Copy/pasting the source code would not really do much without the JavaScript and CSS code that’s in the Live Composer files and the dynamic CSS code LC generates for each page based on the options for modules you selected.

Just to mention again, it’s the same for the other plugins, the data or copy/paste of the generated HTML won’t be fully functional unless the plugin itself is active.

    Regards,
    Slobodan
