I’m trying to move my website that is currently hosted on wordpress.com to hosting on HostGator. I was able to export the xml file from the dashboard on my website, but I’m having a lot of trouble backing up all the content on my website. I’m going to first back it all up, and then move all the content to the new host. I’ve tried Google for a while, but couldn’t find any hints on backing up all the content.
    Any tips?

WordPress.com doesn’t offer a way to export any of the media content, so the .xml file is all you can get if you don’t pay them for the Guided Transfer option.

The good news is that WordPress imports all attached media mentioned in the export file, so all you really need is that .xml export file anyway. As WordPress imports the file, it will bring over the attached media from the original blog.
