Backing up by copying FTP files?
-
Hello all,
I am running my first wordpress site and am very much enjoying exploring features etc. I am concerned about the security of the site and am a big believer in back-ups (I bore friends and family with disaster stories to illustrate the need to back up their machines…)I have been looking at plugins for backups and have noticed that some do some sorts of backups, then other plugins mention how they back up some things that others do not. For me in my early stage of WordPressness, this is a little confusing. I will eventually learn all of this but in the meantime………I was thinking – is this too simplistic, or can I just go to my root folder at my host, and take a copy of my www folder with an FTP client? In the event of something going wrong with my site, can I just remove the folder currently on the root and replace it lock stock and barrel with the copy that I have backed up on my computer? I know that I would lose the most recent content added, but it means that at least my core would be intact and fully functional…
I would be most grateful for your time and your answers. I want to feel like my site is safe and that I can sort it out instantly should something go wrong.
Thank you in advance….
