    Hello,

the checklist tells me for each of my stories using the same background video file the video has to be optimized.

After optimizing the file in one story it is still the old in the next. Once optimizing that one, there are now two files (three including original video) in my library that are the same although the optimized video should be used wherever the old one was before.

Due to the error your replacement tool has that is a big problem!

See video (+audio) for documentation of the issue: https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/video/5591248?key=8710dd3e58798990103744e7dbcf834b

    Thank you,

    ER

    Hi there,

Thanks for raising this. There’s definitely room for improvement here. I think the editor can be smarter and check whether an optimized video exists before creating another optimized version.

I’ll bring this up with the team to ensure we can add this to one of our upcoming releases.

We’ll keep you updated on this!

As a workaround in the meantime, you should be able to manually replace the video in the second story with the already optimized version from the media library, instead of clicking on “Optimize” again.

Also, in case you were wondering: we cannot simply delete or override the original video as you might be using it elsewhere on your site already.

    Thank you,

certainly does it not make sense for the optimization tool to replace the asset in the library.

As the replacement tool is broken at the moment the time spend copying the compressed background video over to every single slide of each webstory manually is intense and something hopefully fixed not in ‘one of our upcoming’ but the next update, perhaps even hotfix.

All properties like overlayed gradients are lost using the described ‘workaround’, increasing spent time again. (-> replacement tool)

    Thanks.

@emilrueh Just a heads up that we recently added some logic to Web Stories so that if an optimized version of a video is available, it will be reused appropriately in other Web Stories.

Let us know if you have any questions!
