Background not linking

Hi. I’ve noticed a lot of people post with this issue and there seems to be different solutions. I tried one, which had me include the following code into the Custom Stylesheet field
#header,
#mainmenu,
#container,
#footer {
width: 980px;
margin: 0 auto;
}All this did, was make the header section of my site a little wider, which looked awkward, but it didn’t fix the background issue and cause it to link. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
