I can only get the background image to crop with ‘Force Full Width’ on. This is when using the example slider that comes with the plugin, as well as my own.

Is there a way to get this to work without ‘Force Full Width’ on?

It may be because we have the ‘body’ set to full browser width. If I set ‘Adjust slider width to’ set to the parent container, it will work as long as ‘Force Full Width’ on, but not with it off. However, since the settings page says that this will make the slider fill the whole browser, it’s probably not the best option. However, it does seem to be working, at least in the current browser I’m using (Firefox). Shouldn’t it work without ‘Force Full Width’ on?

The same is true using “Boxed” instead of “Full width”.

    Hi @jamminjames

Slide background images are usually getting cropped if the aspect ratio of the image and the aspect ratio of the slider differs.

When you use the Boxed layout, I think the aspect ratio of the slider and the image both match, that’s why the image will fill the slider without being cropped.

But when you use the Full width layout width “Force full width” enabled, your slider might lose the original aspect ratio.
One possible reason for this could be the “Limit slide width” setting:
    https://smartslider.helpscoutdocs.com/article/2033-what-affects-the-sliders-size#limit-slide-width
When the Limit slide width setting is enabled, the width of the layer area will be limited and so its height and the slide height will be. But since you use the Full width layout with “Force full width” enabled, the slider itself will still go as wide as the viewport.

If you don’t want the background image to be cropped, then please make sure:

    • the aspect ratio of your background image matches with the aspect ratio of your Slider size
    • your content fits into the slider ( If your slider contains at least one slider that’s content is too high, than that will increase the height of your entire slider, and the slider will lose its original aspect ratio )
    • the Limit slide width setting is disabled.

If you don’t mind if the background image doesn’t cover the area of the entire slider, then the other option you have is to use the “Fit” or “Blur fit” fill modes:

If you still have a question or problem, then please send us a link where we can see your slider.

    Best regards,
    Laszlo.
