Backend validation

Hi @all,
i trying to create a plugin for CF7 that gets data over a rest api call and attach a csv file.

Now i would like to validate the form filed with the api key ist not empty. Include the wpcf7-validates-as-required css class do not catch the empty field.

Is there a solution?
