I have set up a Backblaze B2 account and tested the credentials with an s3 command line program. All good.

I also tested UpdraftPlus with an AWS bucket and that works well.

When I set up a connection to Backblaze B2 using the S3 generic option and run the S3 Settings test I get the following error:

S3 settings test result: Failure: We successfully accessed the bucket, but the attempt to create a file in it failed. Please check your access credentials. (UpdraftPlus_S3::putObject(): [InvalidRequest] The V2 signature authorization mechanism you have provided is not supported. Please use AWS4-HMAC-SHA256)

    Can this be resolved?

    Cheers,
    Noel

    Hi,

Can you please try to Wipe settings from UpdraftPlus > Advanced tools > Wipe settings, Click the Wipe settings button, Then go back to UpdraftPlus > Settings, authenticate to your AWS account, save the settings.

Check if above steps helps to fix the issue.

    Hi @bcrodua,

Thanks for the suggestion. The error message remains the same.

BTW this is for a Backblaze B2 account and not an AWS S3 account.

I am adding my credentials to the S3 Compatible (Generic) settings.

    Cheers,

May I know what PHP and UpdraftPlus plugin version are you using, please?

    Hi @bcrodua,

PHP version 7.4.7 on a local Debian box.
    UpdraftPlus version 1.16.25

    Hi @bcrodua,

I don’t know if this is part of the problem but in the browser’s Inspector Console for the UpdraftPlus admin settings page there is a message about an empty value. It’s not a warning and I’m not sure if I should post it here.

The browser is Firefox Developer Edition.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

This is the lead developer of UD here – I just want to clarify something. We’ve never tested or officially supported Backblaze B2 via their S3 API (it wasn’t around until relatively recently). If you can get it to work in the free version, then great. But otherwise, we provide an official paid add-on that uses their own API, which is fully supported.

    Hi @davidanderson and @bcrodua,

Thanks for the clarification David; much appreciated.

All good regarding the paid version. It’s good value!

    Cheers,

    Noel

I’ve experienced the same error and I believe its because UpdraftPlus S3 signatures are version 2 (V2) as indicated in the error message. Whereas, Backblaze states that only version 4 (V4) signatures are currently supported.

So, what about UpdrafPlus upgrading its version of authentication to version 4?
