The WP menu in the back end is acting strange.
Any time the page is loaded, i first loads alright, but then at the end, the WP menu jumps down a line, leaving a blank line at the top.
Then when I hover over the menu with the mouse, they all jump back up, except the active item, there two items are over each other.
It’s difficult to explain, so I made screenshots.
    This is the OK menu:

And this is the weird thing happening:
    https://nl.tinypic.com/r/988wgy/8

I’ve tried disabeling all plugins, but that didn’t solve it.
I also tried going back to the twenty fifteen theme, but that also didn’t solve it.
Has anyone ever seen this before?
What can I do/try to solve it?

deactivate your plugins and reset the theme to the default to see if the problem persists. if it stops behaving badly then you’ve got a plugin or theme issue that you need to address.

reactivate the plugins and theme one by one to see what makes the problem resurface.

    Hi Jack,
    thanks for your reply.
I realised I hadn’t written that in my previous post and I added it as you were writing your response ??
I have tried disabeling the plugins and activating twenty fifteen, but unfortunately it didn’t work ??

ok, the next step might be a bit more drastic. if you’ve got access to the server try renaming the plugins directory, even though they’re deactivated they may still be causing problems but renaming the directory further removes their influence.

can you list what version of wp you’re using, what plugins you actually have and what theme you’re using?

I have never done that before.
I can just rename it back when I did this check right? And everything will be back to what it was?

yep, all the plugin settings are stored in the database so when you change the name of the plugin folder the settings are safe.

rename the folder, go back to the dashboard, clear your web browser’s cache and reload the page to see if the problem has gone away.

if you list those technically details about version and plugins in use i’ll take a look at them to see which is likely to be causing the issue.

OK, I renamed the folder to ‘plugins2’ and saw that all the plugins had been disabled.
I cleared the cache of Chrome, but unfortunately the problem is still there.

    I use WP 4.3.1
I have quite some plugins now (cause I kept on working) but the problem was already there with only a few plugins, so for starters I’ll list those 4:
    Akismet
    CMS2CMS Mediawiki to WordPress migration
    Simple History
    WP edit

    The theme is WikiWP

I might add that this used to be a MediaWiki website (it still exists) and CMS2CMS did a migration for us to WordPress. All the wiki-pages are now wordpress-pages.
I’m thinking it might have something to do with the migration, but I can’t figure out what.
I’ve already let them also see the screenshots, but they say that they don’t see/experience the problem (and of course they also don’t troubleshoot it).

I’ve tried a different browser and in IE the problem is not there.
So it seems to be restricted to Chrome.

Hi! I came here because I was notified that my plugin Simple History was mentioned.

I think that the problem you have have nothing to do with the plugins, instead it’s a problem with the latest version of Google Chrome. Is it this problem you’re having -> https://wptavern.com/a-bug-in-chrome-45-causes-wordpress-admin-menu-to-break
    ?

if it’s only appearing in chrome then that’s likely the problem. who’d have thought something would look right in IE? ??

    Thread Starter Cat

    (@mvankampen)

    Yes indeed! ??
But I’ve got other WP sites running just fine in Chrome, so there still has to be something that’s causing this in Chrome… ??

    @p?r: Yes, that’s exactly what I have!
Very strange though it’s only happening in this one website, when I’ve got multiple websites that I maintain…
I’m going to read the whole article now ??

I updated Chrome to version 45.0.2454.93 and it’s solved!

So it was indeed a Chrome thingy, but they already fixed it, fortunately! It was driving me crazy.

Thanks for your patience Jack, and P?r thank you for the link!
Hopefully more people will be helped with this information.
