• Great plugin. Allows me to set up galleries using WordPress core features instead of an entirely parallel system. Fast, works well under 4.1.

Nextgen importer worked without a bobble, be aware that Nextgen must be activated – not just installed – for the importer to show up. I would suggest that the importer admin page show up by default, if Nextgen isn’t activated it could show a message to do so.

Would appreciate some file-management capabilities, such as the ability to add media to gallery directly from a directory already on the server.

Those are suggestions and may be available with other plugins. Foo seem to care about not loading down the plugin with too many features, which is a plus IMO.

I used the OWL gallery template, which required getting the settings just right to display the way I wanted. Once done, it was easy to add many appealing, responsive galleries comprising thousands of images.

    Five stars.

PS: I would also like to see the ability to bulk edit gallery settings. It seems likely that admins would use many galleries with the same settings, as I do.

As it is, I just hack-solved it by editing the defaults in OWL gallery extension so every time I added a gallery it would show up with my preferred setting already in place, saving me from having to manually change 6 settings on numerous galleries.

Thanks for the great review and relevant suggestions. The bulk editing or default settings is something that a few people have asked for and is something I will be building soon. Setting defaults will be built into the core plugin, but the bulk editing functions might be an extension.

The ability to add media from a directory already on the server could use quite a bit of the nextgen importer code so that is a cool suggestion.
Also, people have asked to group gallery images into a specific folder in the uploads folder rather than grouping by upload month and year as it is done now.

I also like your suggestion about making the nextgen importer available without needing to have nextgen activated. I am pretty sure the importer uses direct database calls, so I doubt the nextgen plugin even needs to be activated.

    Hi Brad:

Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear others are also interested in the bulk editing and default settings, and it’s great to have a plugin developer so obviously interested in improving the plugin.

The image adding from server and image grouping options would be incredibly helpful, and I think there is a substantial market. There are a number of other plugins attempting to do those things, but from trying them all and reading the reviews it looks like they are all unsatisfactory for the vast majority of users.

May I suggest the plugin include the ability to move images into folders on the server? This would help those like myself who upload using FTP.

Thanks for creating a great plugin!
