I developed something like this using XML a while back but I like the compact benefits of JSON.

I have a newer version as a theme called Anilla XML that I haven’t released but could share with anyone and if they wanted to create a project for it they could. I wouldn’t mind combining it with this project or a separate plug-in as well but didn’t have time to figure out how to add it to the official repo. PS Might try and get involved with this project when time permits.
