Award retroactive points?

  • Is there a way to take my current comments and enter them into the system to award points retroactively?
    Most of my comments are being made on facebook, and then I import them into the blog with a plugin, called fbcomment importer. Is there a way to continuously run those imported comments thru your points system?

    For your first question the answer is no, the plugin doesn’t currently offer the ability to award points retroactively. However, if there is interest in such a feature, I may add it to the plugin in the future.

    Unfortunately, the answer to your second question is also no. I’ve looked at the source code of the Facebook comment importer plugin (assuming you mean this one), and it saves the comment with the user’s Facebook username in the author field, but it doesn’t save a user ID number for the comment. This means that the comment isn’t directly associated with a particular user who has registered on your site, and so WordPoints will not award points for it. (WordPoints can only award points to registered users.)

    However, it would likely be possible to create a plugin which determines the user’s ID when the comment is saved, based on their Facebook username. Then WordPoints would know which user the comment is from and would award them points accordingly.

    Thanks for the fast reply. THAT would be an interesting development, as I dont think anyone has really done a plugin that can reward comments made ON facebook.

    I am working on retroactive points now, and I plan to make the feature a part of version 2.1, which will be released at the end of August.
