• I tried the WP Block Editor several times since it’s been introduced and each time I didn’t like it. I’m still using the Classic Editor. Are there any plans to discontinue the Classic Editor? If so, how long will it remain available?

    Thanks!

  • Hi, pasqualerose, I’m another Classic Editor user.

    According to the plugin description:

Classic Editor is an official WordPress plugin, and will be fully supported and maintained until at least 2022, or as long as is necessary.

    Great. Thanks Ian!

I love the Classic editor, too. But apparently, it will soon no longer be in use.
Is there a similar text editing plugin to use instead?

    Thanks

Hi, klapkage, there are other plugins that are similar to this one if you search for them within the plugin repository.

“Classic Editor….will be fully supported and maintained until at least 2022.” What a bunch of hooey. It hasn’t been updated in a year, nor has it been tested with WP 6.

Thanks all for the info shared. But question; does the below mean that the plugin will NOT WORK and DISAPPEAR say at the end of 2022, or that it will just not be supported or maintained, but still WORKING? It’s not clear to me.

I, too, am a classic editor user. I find most of my clients who edit their own custom site DESPISE the block editor. If I wanted blocks, I’d install Divi.

Don’t mess with what was awesome. PLEASE keep the classic editor going and up to date.

    My 2 cents worth.

@eventermom I agree. Since so many people still use the Classic Editor, the designers of the Block Editor should understand that to mean that something is seriously wrong with the block editor. Perhaps a redesign of the Block Editor is in order.

    yes @pasqualerose exactly.

@plantprogrammer Thanks. The plugin repository, is that where I search for and install new plugins? What Are they called – or what do I wrote in the search box to find them?

While I don’t disagree with this statement, if anyone at WP is listening – some of us just like to be able to write and edit our content as HTML, or one big paragraph. I use the Block Editor for some clients, classic for most. It’s nice to have both options and would be really nice to know we don’t have to worry about Classic ever going away.

Hi @pasqualerose there are several block plugins, however, Gutenberg is the default one and most probably the one you are referring to. If you have any suggestions you think will make your experience better with these plugins. Please feel free to make a suggestion below, let me know if you need help:

As mentioned in the plugin description, the Classic Editor will fully supported and maintained until a certain period, or for as long as is necessary. For now that period has been pegged at 2024
