• Running WP2.8.4 on WinXP with the Atahualpa theme. Backup my SQL database manually after each post. (I am assuming that the theme and plugins only need to be backed up once.)

Have installed WordPress Database Backup 2.2.2. With many attempts, I have not been able to get it to performed scheduled backups, either to download to my PC or (better) to e-mail them. Is it possible that something is broken or missing? In case it matters, I moved and renamed the .htaccess file as recommended.

I also installed DBC Backup 1.1. When I try to run this one, I get the error message “Folder /public_html/blogname/wp-content/DBcron wasn’t created, check permissions.” Could someone pls advise what permissions I need to set for what folder?

Finally, I installed WP-DBManager 2.50. I have not been able to get this one to run automatically either.

Any help appreciated, including a pointer to relevant articles. Already searched this forum and Google.

    TIA-

    Ctenos

    777. Personally I tend to create the backup folder outside of the document root.

Much obliged, esmi – that did enable manual save. (But isn’t a 777 dangerous in terms of public access?) However, I still can’t get timed auto-save to work in any of these plugins. Since there don’t seem to be trouble reports generally, it must be my setup. Help, please?

    Thanks-

In WP-DBManager the htaccess should provide you decent security for your backed up databases.

Also in WP-DBManager please be sure that the “Path to Backup” on the “Database Options” page is correct. I have had problems in the past where the path was not correct but WP-DBManager has no error messages showing this to me so I also was frustrated. If you are using a VPS or virtual host then you may need to verify the correct path from your webhost.

Did you ever find a fix for this issue?

I can’t get the scheduled backup to work either. I use it on many sites and it doesn’t seem to function. It used to work on a couple, but recently doesn’t. Maybe this is a WordPress version issue, or a plugin version issue, I’m not clever enough to know ??

    Any advice?

I got it to work. I read the readme.txt file that came with the plugin. ?? the problem for me was that I didn’t know where the root directory is for the plugin. If you put “backup” in the Export Directory field for the plugin, it points to the “Content” subdirectory of WP. I used ../backup for the path and it pointed to a folder I created called “backup” in my WP folder.
