Automatically set new users as “Subscriber”

  • Hi, Is there a way to make it so that new users who register themselves to our blog will be automatically given “Subscriber” status rather than “Contributor?” As of now, they are automatically registered as “Contributors” and I have to manually go in afterwards and change it. We’re using the Simple Indy Theme and I’ve been digging through the settings but can’t find the option. I’m actually using WordPress 2.8.4 (but that version wasn’t available in the pulldown menu for this posting). Any help is really appreciated! Hopefully it’s right under my nose and I’m just missing it. THANKS!

  • Admin/Setting/General. About halfway down the page. “New User Default Role”.

    I’d also strongly recommend that you upgrade to 2.9.1 as soon as possible if you want to reduce the risks of your site being hacked.
