• I am just wondering how much bandwidth it takes or uses up when you use a plugin to play MP3s such as Automatic WP Player? Let’s say that if you only upload one MP3 to the site, what is the effect on bandwidth?

    Thanks!

  • That would depend in large part on the amount of traffic your site receives.

i assume the player basically downloads and plays the mp3 file — if it plays the entire file, that’s your bandwidth. if it semi-streams the file, then if people move away from your site, they’ll only have played some of the file, thus reduced bandwidth. But my guess is that it’ll ‘cap’ at the total file size — per user.

also don’t know if it caches the file locally, so it doesn’t retrieve data again — it would if it brought the whole file down, might not if it semi-streamed.
