Automatic upgrade from 2.8.3 to 2.8.4 failed – no errors given

  • Hello,

    I have recently been having lots of problems with upgrading my wordpress install… ever since 2.8.1 or so, i have been unable to run the automatic install, and deleting all my files while trying to remember which ones i’ve edited and also while leaving all the uploads in place etc… is really not easy for me, whereas the automatic upgrade (when it worked) was absolutely perfect!

    So… when i run the upgrade, all i get is “Upgrade failed”. There are no other errors.

    Does anyone know what i can do to troubleshoot this further? I’ve tried renaming the wp-content/upgrade folder to something else and that made no difference.

    Other automatic upgrades (on themes & plugins) work perfectly.

  • I was trying to go from 2.8
    to 2.84 and also only got “Upgrade failed”.

    I did download and uploaded this file:
    class-wp-upgrader.php

    And it worked for me as well!!

    Although on my Vista machine the dashboard had a header and part of the side bar with the twirling cursor for 1/2 hour… suspious that it wouldn’t take the upgrade I checked Cpanel from my laptop and saw
    upgrade/2.8.4 there. Closed out on Vista and went back to dashboard and all is good!!

    I have a problem with the upgrade from 2.8.4 to 2.8.5 and the above fix seems to work. Upgrade was successful after that. Thanks!

    I had given up on this thread, but until today was still suffering the problem – this file has made everything wonderful again!

    Presumably, it’s a bug fix that will eventually find it’s way into the main release, right?

    Is that file compatible with 2.8.5 / 2.8.6? Any idea if it might solve the issue of plugins not updating via the wordpress dashboard?
