    I am not sure why, but when I try to run the automatic upgrade for my plugins it does not work. Does not tell me a thing, just a blank screen. It shows downloading at the bottom of the screen in firefox and then the screen goes blank and thats it.

    Suggestions?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    I will try that and see if that works, I will update shortly.

    Did not make any difference with all plugins turned off and going back to the default theme.

    You may need to increase PHP’s available memory. Here are four ways to increase PHP’s memory allocation:

    1. If you have access to your PHP.ini file, change the line in PHP.ini
    If your line shows 32M try 64M:
    memory_limit = 64M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (64MB)

    2. If you don't have access to PHP.ini try adding this to an .htaccess file:
    php_value memory_limit 64M

    3. Try adding this line to your wp-config.php file:
    Increasing memory allocated to PHP
    define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '64M');

    4. Talk to your host.

    php memory is set to 128m, so I am sure we have plenty….

    I own the machine so there is no host to talk to.

    I made the change to the wp-config.php and still get the same results.

    I’ve never had any luck getting “automatic upgrade” to work for updating plugins either. Using latest and greatest version of WP, too.

    It either says it cannot create a directory (wp-content, but sometimes it says it can’t create “public_html” or otherwise fails. Been this way for ages, though many incarnations of WP. Sigh.

    I see a lot of “solutions” when I search the forums here, but I’m wondering if anyone really has the definitive answer on this? It seems to be a recurring problem for a lot of people.

    Just asking. ??
