Automatic Update Time Resetting and Not Updating

I have a site running WordPress 5.9.3 (it’s a LAMP stack in AWS running AWS Linux 2).
The upgrade to WordPress 6 is on “standby”, meaning that it’s currently showing “This site is automatically kept up to date with each new version of WordPress.”
However, the day and time keeps changing and the version stays on 5.9.3. As soon as WordPress is going to automatically update in the background, the date goes out 12 hours into the future.
I should also mention that Plugins that are configured to Automatically update are updating as expected.
Can you please help me understand why this is happening & how to fix it? I’d like to upgrade to WordPress 6 so that I have the latest version running.

My suggestion is to take backup of entire site before doing any major update for core wordpress or any other plugin.
You can also manually update latest version of wordpress from Dashboard > Update menu option in wordpress backend.
You can refer to good article to make auto update enabled.
