automatic update

Hi there, Im just wondering how the automatic update plugin works as I visit the download page, the files seems to be the latest version of wordpress instead of the plugin files or are they the same??

Because im looking for a plugin that enables us to update our wordpress through the admin interface without having to upload any files, hope someone can clarify my confusion.
