    Hi,

i’ve a woocommerce shop running since December and I’m not sure “Automatic Tax Calculation” is working properly, so there are some locations the system apply 21% and others apply 0%. I’m not sure if this is ok or if better I apply a standard rate of 21% (my local tax rate) for all customers

From UK the system applied 21% but from Canada or Australia the system applied 0% to me.

    Hi @soniksoundlib,

Are you using the WooCommerce Shipping & Tax plugin for automatic tax calculation? If so, this plugin is designed to apply the appropriate tax rates based on the customer’s location. Hence, the tax rate might vary for customers from different locations. More info: https://woo.com/document/woocommerce-shipping-and-tax/woocommerce-tax/

However, if you have noticed that the taxes are not calculating correctly and have configured everything accordingly, please enable debug mode and share the log with us. More info: https://woo.com/document/woocommerce-shipping-and-tax/woocommerce-tax/#troubleshooting

If you want to apply a standard tax rate of 21% for all customers regardless of their location, you can do so by setting up a standard tax rate in your WooCommerce settings. However, please be aware that this might not comply with the tax laws of all countries. It’s recommended to consult with a tax advisor on this matter to ensure you’re compliant with international tax laws.

I hope this clarifies your concern. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Exactly, I’m using “WooCommerce Shipping & Tax”, and of course I read this (https://woo.com/document/woocommerce-shipping-and-tax/woocommerce-tax/) after writing here.

Yes I set it as the link you postes here. I have enabled debug mode and I’ll share this with you (here or to what email?)!

The strange thing is that the shop is based in Spain but for customers inside Spain to someone’s applied 0% and to other is applied 21%. Really strange.

Of course I’m in the way to get advice from a tax advisor, I maybe would be better to set 21% to all customers and eventually yo add EU VAT plugin extension in the future.

    Thank you!

I’ve got this log in Tax Logs

    2024-02-17T18:10:49+00:00 NOTICE API request is stopped. Country destination is set to US or CA but the state is empty. (WCS Tax) CONTEXT: {“_legacy”:true}

    Hi @soniksoundlib,

It’s strange that your WooCommerce Shipping & Tax plugin is applying inconsistent tax rates for customers within Spain.

However, the log you’ve shared indicates that the tax calculation was stopped because the state field was empty for a customer in the US or Canada. Make sure your customers are filling in all required fields during checkout.

Of course I’m in the way to get advice from a tax advisor, I maybe would be better to set 21% to all customers and eventually yo add EU VAT plugin extension in the future.

It’s good to hear you’re seeking advice from a tax advisor. This will ensure you’re compliant with all international tax laws.

I hope this provides some clarity. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Does WooCommerce Shipping & Tax plugin apply the appropriate tax rates based on the customer’s location. I thought it only calculates tax for your home state, so if I have a customer in another state or country it won’t calculate their correct rate of sales tax.

    Hey, @ratamatcat!

The tax will be Calculated using?Customer shipping address.

You can find more about this in this guide.
