Automatic download of the media files

In the Media Library, you have a “Download file” link next to each file in the table view. If you click on it, the download will be forced.

If you want to implement this yourself, you have to set the download attribute on the link element. Example:

You can only configure this on the server side, e.g. by changing the content type in the HTTP header for certain files. Here you can find examples: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/14388994/forcing-a-download-using-filesmatch-in-htaccess

Caution: if you apply this to the whole wp-content/uploads/ directory, all included files from there would be offered to every visitor as download. You have to define the rules on the server side very precisely to avoid this.
