The automated taxes module appears to be working in calculating the tax, the trouble is, it will not add it to the cart’s total (despite displaying it in the cart) without a corresponding entry on the tax rate table.

Example: On setup it will add the store’s state and zip code to the table (in this case, Illinois).

During checkout Illinois residents will see the tax in their cart but it will not be included in the total, nor will it charge them for the tax. Only resident’s in the store’s zip code will have it added.

I’ve tried removing all entries from the table but then nobody gets charged taxes.

This sort of defeats the purpose of the automated tax feature or am I missing something? I have a temporary fix right now by adding an entry for the entire state but I have counties and municipalities we need to be accurately collecting taxes for. I had hoped to use this feature for the client instead of getting TaxJar separately.

    Hello @wgfinley,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having problems with automated tax calculation. Let’s see if we can figure out what’s going wrong.

When using the automated tax calculation built in to WooCommerce Services (and powered by TaxJar), the standard tax table should have entries added to it as customers are quoted tax for postcodes that don’t already exist in your tax settings.

I ran an Illinois test, with my store in 60654 and a customer in 61820. The tax rate of 10.25% was charged (as determined for the store’s postcode) and added to the order details after checkout.

Does this align with your expectations? If not, can you share some more details (postcodes are helpful) about what you’re seeing happen?

You shouldn’t have to manually manage your tax table, that’s the whole point. ??

    Thanks!

I seem to be having a similar issue with my site. Tax is calculated via shipping address and is displayed below the subtotal. However, the total just displays the subtotal, without adding the tax amount to it.
Site is cmstuningusa.com and I used Arizona 85281 as my test case.

    Hello @wgfinley and @jcpacelli,

I’ve tested again, and while I do have a line item for tax, it’s not being added to the order total. It appears that the TaxJar integration hasn’t been updated to work with WooCommerce 3.2.x.

We’re working on a fix now. Thanks for reporting.

    Hi again @wgfinley and @jcpacelli!

WooCommerce Services 1.8.3 has just been released, and should fix the tax issue you’ve encountered.

Please let us know if it resolves the problem. Thanks!
