• I upgraded to 2.7 and everything seems to be working well with the exception of a few things:

When trying to use the auto-upgrade of the core or plugins it tells me “Could not create directory: /root_folder/root_folder”. I even changed the directory’s permissions to 775, but still no luck.

My second issue is when I try to use the Flash uploader (which worked fine in the previous version) doesn’t show up. It gives me the non-Flash option, but I want to use the Flash version to upload multiple files at once.

You may need 777 permissions on that directory, depending on how the server is configured.

Not a very secure way to run things. Also isn’t it strange that it is trying to write another dir with the same name as the root?

Agreed, but that’s not up to WordPress. Your security is a matter of your server configuration and setup. WordPress has to obey the rules of the systems security, it doesn’t make them up on its own.

If the user that the webserver runs as can’t write to the files, then neither can WordPress. It has no way to escalate its own privileges beyond what the webserver has.

If it could write to those files without you giving that level of permission, then your system would actually be LESS secure.

I know all those words, but they don’t seem to make sense in that particular order. What exactly are you talking about here?

OK I will try changing them to 777.

Sorry about the confusion. What I am trying to say is:

The root directory that I have my wp install in is, for sake of argument, /mywpinstall. When I try to run the auto update or try to auto install a plugin it is trying to write to: /mywpinstall/mywpinstall/.

That doesn’t seem right. Any ideas?
