• I have a number of sites updating to 5.6 and then immediately to 5.6.1-alpha-49778 afterwards. I have nothing set to enable bleeding edge releases..

Actually , a clue.. it only seems to be happening on network sites thus far…

    Hi @acwporg,

    Thanks for reporting this!

Can you share any more details? Which plugins are active? What theme are you using? There are a few other people reporting a similar issue, so any additional details about your site you can provide would be helpful to track the issue down.

This is happening to me as well. No idea what could be causing it. I’m using iThemes Security Pro which has a version managment feature that includes auto-installing the latest version, but I don’t have that feature turned on.

@desroji, being network sites.. there’s a lot.. these are the common network activated plugins I can see so far..

    Akismet
    iThemes Security Pro
    Updraft Backup

I have other network sites with these but they don’t seem to have updated yet.

@shoelaced can you share any other details about your site? Any other active plugins?

@acwporg thanks for sharing! While investigating this, it seems like some type of temporary issue that has not reoccurred in a few hours now. If you can, please follow up once those other network sites update and let us know how that goes!

For all of the sites I have helped with so far, clicking the Reinstall button on the update screen in the admin has successfully reinstalled the proper, 5.6.0 version. If you do attempt that, though, of course make sure to backup your site just in case.

    Hiya,

Adding y’all to the loop, in case others who experienced this should stumble on the topic.

The team responsible for the systems have identified a gremlin in there, and a very small subset of sites (~2000) were unluckily shown the version number used in development. For all intent and purpose this and version 5.6 it self are identical, so the only difference is the version number. The team have taken steps to catch any similar issues in the future.

Ran into the same issue on a few sites.

Did a site backup and then reinstalled 5.6, that did the trick. Working 100% on 5.6 stable non-alpha. =)

Reinstalled and seems to be working now!
