• Hi,
Every few days WordPress is automatically updated to 4.0.21, even though I have updated to version 4.9.1. In other words, I get the Howdy message saying it has been updated to 4.0.21 and I go into my site and update it to 4.9.1 and then a few days later I get another Howdy message saying it updated my site to 4.0.21 yet again. This goes on and on.

    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

This is really weird! Make sure nothing is overriding the core (e.g., cPanel default setting, your hosting, any plugin, etc.)

Checked all that. No problems there. Still updating to old version. Yuck

Did you originally install WP using your host’s one-click installation feature? These host versions are often hacked to best suit the host’s environment. It often means they manage updates, which could be the cause of faulty updating. It may be something your host needs to resolve.

You could try getting away from the host installed environment by manually updating the WP files. (Or just try it anyway for no particular reason, it might help) That may not be enough to get away from the host’s version though. There could be entries in the DB that tie your installation back to the one-click install version of the host. You could also try moving your data to a new manually created DB, but that may not help. Good luck!

Happens to me also. Even if I manually rewrite files from ftp. Looks like it doesnt update info in database or something like that.
